Doha 1993 – 2001
Caroline moved to the Middle East in her twenties, where she opened her design studio working with a group of artisans. The label was called Caroline K, and here she quickly built up a reputation of quality and unique design. She soon developed a loyal customer base attracting clients as prestigious as Her Highness Sheikha Moza from the Royal family.
The amalgamation of European and Middle Eastern design influenced time of exploration, indulgence, and imagination. Clients chose from collections of an evening and bridal wear of stunning beauty, which offered that magical drama desired by the Middle Eastern woman.
The Middle East was an excellent source of inspiration for Caroline. Each gown was made in her workshop, and the designer gave all elements from design to embellishments individual attention. It was these elements, her love of delicate finishes, quality and love of form that she sought to encompass within the N&C Kilkenny collections.
2001 – Present
Sisters Caroline and Nicola Kilkenny grew with an abiding love of fashion and a dream of creating their own label. That dream became a reality. The Irish-born sisters operated one of the most successful designer-labels on the island where they developed an ardent following among discerning style-conscious women. Their clothes were even worn by Dr. Mary McAleese during her Presidency.
Their strikingly original womenswear collections attracted attention overseas. Both sisters brought unique and individual talents to the mix: Caroline ran her own design studio in Qatar were her beautiful, painstakingly-detailed evening and wedding dresses became sought after among princesses and socialites. Nicola worked as a designer and creative adviser for many of Ireland’s leading design companies before the sisters decided in 2001 to strike out on their own. Trading as N&C Kilkenny, the label is sold in beautiful boutiques and department stores around Ireland.
